With dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS), front side airbags and ABS brakes, the Element EX is as safe as it is fun. And the proof can be found in the crash-test results provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Honda Element has received the highest crash-test rating-five stars-in NHTSA's front impact tests.* And with strong vertical beams that reinforce the frame, side sills and roof, expect to ride in a seriously tough passenger cabin.

*NHTSA crash test conducted in March 2003.

SAFETY FEATURES

The Element has an anti-lock braking system (ABS) that uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control when braking hard (EX). On the EX model, the Electronic Brake Distribution system (EBD) balances the front/rear braking forces.
In the event of a moderate-to-severe frontal impact, the dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS) inflate and deflate in a fraction of a second, and are designed to help prevent head and upper-body injuries.
In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the side airbag inflates to help protect the driver's or front passenger's upper body. Plus, the Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) utilizes sensors in the front passenger's seatback to detect the height and seating position of the occupant. These sensors deactivate the side airbag if a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the deployment path (EX).
All four seats are equipped with 3-point seat belts. The rear seats feature the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) mounting system for use with compatible child seats.
Front 3-point seat belts with an automatic tensioning system ride across the lap and chest to help restrain occupants during sudden stops or impact.
